On June 25, 2022 eleven artist members from Splash Gallery welcomed the return of their in-person Annual Unveiling. Each artist created a new piece specifically for this popular event. The pieces are hung in the gallery and were covered until 4pm, on the day of the unveiling reception.
Splash Gallery, now in its 11th year, is home to 11 local artists who own and operate the vibrant co-op gallery location on Olympia’s historical Percival Landing. Each artist spent a few minutes to literally unveil their new piece hidden behind black curtains, and talked with guests about their inspiration and processes of their creations.
The impressive array is a dazzling and much-needed welcome to the season. Eileen Bochsler (encaustics) Jan Carlton (pastels), Laura Harmon (ceramics), Katie Harmon (ink and watercolor), Laurel Henn (print-maker), Ruth Greening (silversmith), Robbi La Londe (sea glass) Connie McGuire (woodcarving and watercolors), Sue Morganroth (mosaics), Dennis Powers (wood turner) and Katherine Ransom (oil paints) each transformed the ordinary into truly extraordinary artworks.
Several of the artists presented works with the Art Nouveau theme in mind, while others explored new formats, challenging subjects and experimentations with new techniques. The results were an unparalleled success. All the works are currently on display and are for sale, but visitors are urged to come soon, before the signature works are sold.
According to Laurel Henn, Senior Director of Splash Gallery, “Guest reactions included applause, exclamations of surprise or awe and universally, everyone felt welcomed and just excited to witness the creativity and sense of community we have worked for over a decade to achieve. It was wonderful to see log-time patrons, new faces, family and friends. We are looking forward to officially celebration our 11th Anniversary event in August.”
